Description A sumptuous early 18th century gold box of cartouche form with a hinged lid. The top panel is chased with the classical goddess Diana reclining in a forest setting with an Apollo mask above. The shaped side panels are decorated with dogs and birds. There is an old German or Austrian collector’s label attached inside. Lovely crisp finish. Supplied with later fitted blue box. Weight 68g, 2 troy oz approx.. Width 6.5cm, 2.5ins. European Circa 1725. Marks. Stamped twice on the edge of the box with an owl mark. This is a French control mark for small gold imported items.
